Mulleres Salgadas

Founded in 2016 in the Ría de Arousa region of Galicia, the Association of Mulleres Salgadas is the first and only organization representing women across all maritime professions in the Galician fishing sector. With over 2,000 members—including individuals and groups from fishing brotherhoods, mussel farms, cooperatives, and cultural associations—Mulleres Salgadas is a pioneering, feminist organization dedicated to recognizing and empowering women’s work at sea. Its influence has grown well beyond its original scope, and since 2020, it has held a seat on the strategic committee of AKTEA, the European network of women in fisheries.
