“It is vital to protect small-scale fishing. This means ensuring fair access to marine resources and involving fishers in the decisions that affect them. Without these guarantees, a whole generation of young people dreaming of a future in fishing will be forced to give up. It also spells the gradual disappearance of coastal communities that rely on it, and the decline of small-scale fishers who are struggling more and more to make a living from their passion.”
Gwen Pennarun has been a small-scale fisher for over 40 years and currently serves as President of both the Brittany Handliners Association and the Low Impact Fishers of Europe (LIFE)
