Marsempre – Associação Marítima de Ferragudo
PORTUGAL
Ferragudo is a fishing village to this day, founded in 1520 by Queen Leonor of Portugal. Cycles of scarcity and abundance have shaped its people and their way of life over five centuries, evident in their houses, streets, monuments, culture, and the experience of their heirs: The sea people of Ferragudo.
Marsempre represents this collective of men and women who make the sea their life here. In the legitimate right and duty of each one to prosper and leave for the future a better world than the one they received, we defend:
• Fishing that prioritizes the well-being of the ocean as a guarantor of the livelihood of sustainable small-scale and low-impact fishing;
• Tourism that wants to get to know us, respecting and valuing our culture;
• New activities of the blue economy that seek to add value instead of destroying and replacing existing ones.
